Seniors WILL Grow Backyard Raised Garden Program and Fairmont Beautification Project

The Seniors WILL Grow Backyard Raised Garden Bed Program is going to be expanded in 2022. This project involves We WILL Grow, Lockport Township High School Superintendent’s Office, Lockport Township Board, Trades, Horticulture and Special Education Departments, and the Fairmont Community Partnership Group, Inc.

The team will be adding six raised backyard garden boxes to the current inventory of 10 backyard garden boxes developed in 2019.

The project will also help expand the Fairmont Beautification Project to place two raised bed flower garden boxes at two key entryways into the Fairmont Community. These boxes will create a welcoming visual to for visitors and residents alike.

This project will tick many boxes-improve access to fresh food, provide healthy food for area seniors, build community pride and create 3-6 seasonal jobs.

Past Projects

University Park CARES Garden

Lewis University student Katie Ewing worked with We WILL Grow to develop a garden. The project resulted in hiring six Lewis Students part time for a month as well as one full time and one part-time employed member of the community.

Former Director of Sustainability for Lewis University, John Lerczak, was instrumental in helping direct the students and complete the garden expansion.

The cost of labor, materials, design build award, and the professionally installed fence (OnGuard Fence Co.) were paid for through the We WILL Grow Community Garden Program.
